How to do a chromatography experiment

Hello,
This week we have started to do instructional writing. Here is an example of one that I wrote...

How to do a chromatography experiment

Goal:
To do a chromatography experiment.

Equipment:
  • Two plastic cups
  • A bowl
  • Two toothpicks
  • Up to four strips of filter paper
  • A hole punch
  • Tape (any kind will do)
  • Any amount of felts pens as you would like
  • Scissors
  • Water

Method

  1. With the hole punch make four evenly spaced holes in the brim of one of the cups.
  2. In the other cup put the toothpicks through to make an even spaced cross around the top of the cup.
  3. Tape the two cups together and cup the filter paper into strips.
  4. Take the felts and put dots just before the end of the paper.
  5. Stick the filter paper onto the toothpicks.
  6. Fill the bowl up with a little bit of water.
  7. Then put the the cups in the bowl.
  8. You will start to see the water making changes to the colours.
  9. You can record the changes in the colours
  10. You put more colours onto the paper as you like then you are finished.
