Eel facts

Gidday,

Today Don from NIWA (national institute of water and atmosphere.) came to talk to us about eels.
I learnt.

  1. That eels can swim backwards.
  2. Their slimy body helps them get through tight spaces.
  3. The biggest eel found in New Zealand was 2 metres long.
  • The eel was a female

     4.The oldest eel found was about 112 years old - they had to
     5.If the ground is wet the eel can go over the land and breathe through its skin.
     6.They swim 4,000 kilometres to breed
     7. They bread in Tonga
     8. They eat small prey by sucking in.
     9. Their teeth go backwards
     10. If short fin eels eat crabs their butt goes red because it hurts to poop out crab legs
     11. They take out the ear bones and count the rings to tell their age.
